SDG2 - Reduce waste of food

We believe in using technology to reduce food waste.
That is why we worked with AMF on the ‘Smart Applicator” in professional bakery production lines. With camera technology and AI we measure the amount of cheese spread on a pizza, and speed up the pizza belt if too much cheese is applied.

We also work with eLEAF to use satellite images for precision fertilization at large sugar cane mills in Colombia. Ensuring a better crop yield while using less pesticides.

SDG6 - Ensure availability of water for all

When large factories open a new plant in an area with scarcity of water, it is important to analyze the impact of the water usage for all habitants and farmers around the plant. Our partner 52Impact uses satellite images to analyze the impact of building a new factory in areas with scarcity of water. A water balance report ensures that the plant leaves enough water for the surrounding farmers and inhabitants.

And our partner-company eLEAF uses the same kind of earth observation technology to report how to most efficiently distribute water in countries such as Morocco suffering from long lasting droughts.

SDG7 - Optimize the usage of clean energy

Renewable energy has a downside: supply and demand are not balanced. On a sunny or windy afternoon, there might be an overproduction of solarpower or wind-energy.

To solve this inbalance, we invest in our own energy-saving product “EnTune” that uses model predictive control and simulations for houses/buildings. It balances energy supply (energy from your own solar panels) and energy demand (charging your car, using your heat pump). Using data & algorithms, the app can reduce energy usage by up to 30%.

Our other investment is in a battery optimization algorithm to actively manage when to store energy from solar panels in a battery and when to give it back to the grid.

SDG9 - Develop sustainable infrastructures

As IT-consultants, a large part of our projects is in the area of cloud computing: migrating data centers to the cloud, spinning up cloud environments for large computations, managing cloud infrastructures, setting up hybrid cloud environments.
Objective is to make the environments more scalable, flexible, cost-effective.
But indirectly, this saves quite some CO2 as well.

And knowing that cloud environments are more CO2-efficient than local sites (calculations range up to 50% more CO2 efficiency; for example, a local server equals 5 trees, whereas a cloud server equals 2,5 trees): just figure how much CO2 can be saved by migrating 1000 servers to the cloud.

In addition, each of those projects has a cloud cost control component: constantly defining ways to reduce cloud spend (for example by shutting off cloud resources when not in use, by downsizing environments, by optimizing application for the cloud). The good thing is: saving in cloud cost mostly also means saving CO2.
We have developed a CO2 calculator that can measure the CO2 impact of our cloud migrations and cost control measures.

SDG15 - Restore degraded land

Our partner-companies eLEAF and NEO use earth observation techniques to analyze terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems, detect deforestation and show restored degraded forests; we actively help in the backend by managing the large data lakes needed for those analyses, and using GenAI to easier query those data sets of satellite images.

In addition, we have our own Itility food forest to show that this type of biodiverse ecosystems can be a viable and profitable way of forest management and food production.
